It’s back-to-school week! As students head back to the classroom and our community settles into a new fall routine, remember to slow down, watch for school buses, and give yourself a little extra time on the roads.

Here are some events happening in our community and beyond:

The Cochecton Preservation Society will celebrate its 20th annual Coffee, Tea & History program on Sunday, September 20 at 1 p.m. at the historic Cochecton Train Station, 8537 Route 97, Cochecton, NY. The event will be held rain or shine and is free and open to the public, with refreshments available.

This year’s program will feature docent Glenn Pontier, who will present “Wood, Coal and Water: Three Essentials that Changed the River Valley.” The presentation will explore the important role these natural resources played in shaping the history and development of the Upper Delaware River Valley.

Following the program, the Cochecton Preservation Society will hold its Wood Raffle drawing. The winner will receive a full cord of kiln-dried firewood, delivered within 25 miles, or may choose a $100 cash prize. Raffle tickets cost $10 each or three for $20.

For more information, call 845/932-8104 or email cps12726@gmail.com.

The program is sponsored by the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway.

Save the date for a fun community event this fall! The Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid will be sponsoring a Penny Social on Saturday, October 17. Mark your calendars and plan to join them for a great time with friends and neighbors. More details will be shared as the event gets closer!

September brings an exciting lineup of live music to the Arts Nest, with three talented artists taking the stage. On Saturday, September 12 at 7 p.m., Kristy Lee will perform, bringing the powerful voice and Southern Gothic style that has earned her praise from Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls, who described Lee’s music as a “tour de force.” On Saturday, September 19 at 7 p.m., singer-songwriter Joe Crookston takes the stage. Known for his infectious energy, storytelling and unforgettable live performances, Crookston has toured with Gordon Lightfoot and shared stages with artists including Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams, Judy Collins and John Gorka. Rounding out the month on Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. is Jessica Willis Fisher, a singer-songwriter and fiddler whose music blends Americana with her traditional Irish and Celtic roots. Fisher has performed on the Grand Ole Opry and America’s Got Talent and released her sophomore album, Blooming, in 2025, with new music celebrating her Celtic roots coming in 2026. Tickets for each performance cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Save the date for the Sullivan County Conservation Club’s Youth Rifle Competition on Sunday, September 27. The competition is open to youth ages 8 to 18 and is free to participate. Ages 12 to 18 will compete with a .22 rifle, while ages 8 to 12 will compete with an air gun. Participants should bring their own firearm and ammunition. The event is open to the public and promises a morning of fun and friendly competition. For complete details or to pre-register, email scconservation.competitions+Youth@gmail.com with the subject line “2026 Youth competition.”
