ALBERTA I. SWENDSEN

Alberta I. Swendsen, 93, of Milanville, PA passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 21, 2025 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, PA. Her beloved husband, William “Bill” J. Swendsen, preceded her in death on December 8, 2001.


Born October 5, 1931 in Honesdale, Wayne County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick B. and Bessie Gregory Dunn.


Alberta grew up in Beach Lake, PA, and was a graduate of Narrowsburg High School. For most of her life, she lived on the family farm where she lovingly raised her family. Alberta was a member of the Calkins Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and played the organ. She was a charter member of the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Alberta also served the community as a member of the Calkins Ladies Aid. She will be remembered as a faithful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.


Alberta is survived by a son, Harvey L. Swendsen and his wife Carla of Milanville; and a daughter, Lori Heckman and her husband Perry of Mohrsville, PA; a sister, Lois Keesler of Damascus, PA; daughters-in-law: Cindy Shearer Swendsen and Trudy Vail Swendsen; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Alberta was also preceded in death by five sons: Richard “Rick” W. Swendsen, Gary J. Swendsen, Lloyd B. Swendsen, Dale H. Swendsen and Frederick “Fred” R. Swendsen; three daughters-in-law: Susan Swendsen, Karen Swendsen and Penny Swendsen; three brothers: Harold F. Dunn, Arnold Dunn and Kenneth Dunn; and three sisters: Evelyn M. Dunn, Edna May Wood and Violet Budd.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Calkins Baptist Church, 527 Calkins Road, Milanville, with Pastor Lane Jones officiating.


Friends and family can visit from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Calkins Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Calkins Cemetery, Milanville.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Alberta’s memory to Calkins Baptist Church, 527 Calkins Road in Milanville.
