A reminder of what it has meant to be a Republican

Lincoln:

"Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves and, under the rule of a just God, cannot long retain it."

"Our defense is in preserving the spirit which prizes liberty as a heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit, and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors."

"We, the people, are the rightful master of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."

Eisenhower:

"You don't lead by hitting people over the head—that's assault, not leadership."

"If you want total security, go to prison. There, you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking …. is freedom."

Reagan:

"If we love our country, we should also love our countrymen."

"Protecting the rights of even the least individual among us is basically the only excuse the government has for even existing."

"Don't be afraid to see what you see."

There was a time I was proud to call myself a member of the Republican party.
