A path to early childhood education

NORTHEAST PA — The Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance (WPWA) has launched Her Path to Early Childhood Education, aimed at expanding the child care workforce in Wayne and Pike counties by reducing financial and logistical barriers for those who would like to work in early childhood education.

The program is funded by a grant from Women in Philanthropy, and will support about 15 residents.

Working in early childhood education requires PA clearances, FBI fingerprinting, background checks for child abuse, certification in CPR and first aid, and more. Transportation stipends are also available to help workers attend training sessions and get their fingerprints taken.

“Access to quality child care begins with a strong workforce,” said Katheryne Hait, executive director of the WPWA. “This initiative removes barriers for individuals entering the field while helping child care providers build and maintain the staff needed to serve working families throughout our region.”

The WPWA noted that the program supports both job seekers and child care providers by creating a stronger talent pipeline, helping child care centers maintain capacity, and increasing access to reliable child care services for local families.

Limited funding is available; the WPWA suggests people should apply soon.

For more information or to enroll, call the WPWA at 570/390-7613 or visit www.wpworkforce.org/registration-form.
