Twenty years ago, our county needed new leadership in law enforcement, someone with energy and vision. We found that in Mike Schiff.
He brought discipline, structure and accountability to the sheriff’s office by appointing a chief of patrol who was present daily. Crimes were investigated thoroughly, reports were meticulously reviewed, and justice truly mattered for the victims, for the community and for the integrity of the department.
But today, that structure is gone.
There is no chief of patrol. No daily leadership presence. No meaningful oversight. Cases go uninvestigated. Accountability has faded under a dangerous philosophy: “lt doesn’t matter whether we arrest anyone, as long as the public thinks we are.”
ln other words, perception has replaced performance.
The sheriff’s office is not accredited. lts policies and procedures are incomplete and unenforceable. A federal investigation into public corruption is ongoing, and it is only a matter of time before the U.S. Attorney’s office takes further action.
We can and must do better.
Tim Dymond is a seasoned law enforcement professional. He has personally investigated serious crimes, testified in both state and federal courts, and seen cases through to final disposition, ensuring that victims receive justice. His opponent simply cannot say the same.
Tim is committed to public safety, restoring professionalism, accountability and integrity to the sheriff’s office. He knows that it’s not just about what the public perceives; it’s about what really happens. It’s about results.
It’s time for change. As a 27-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, having fully retired in September, I urge the residents of Sullivan County to support Tim Dymond for sheriff. Let’s bring back real leadership, reaI standards and real justice.
Jake Gorr
Detective Sgt. (Ret.), Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office
Town of Rockland, NY
