A Taste of Sullivan to raise funds for NAMI

MONTICELLO, NY — It’s a great stocking stuffer or a gift for yourself, and at the same time, you’ll help others.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Sullivan County is raising funds with A Taste of Sullivan. A one-time purchase of a $25 discount card is a tax-deductible donation to the program, which supports people with psychiatric diagnoses and the families who care for them.

The card permits unlimited use at participating businesses from January 1 through December 31, 2022.

Mail a check, made out to NAMI Sullivan, for $25 per card and include your mailing address and phone number. Send it to NAMI Sullivan, 20 Crystal Street, Monticello, NY 12701.  Proceeds of this and all fundraising stay local and go to expand opportunities and enrich the lives of people living with mental illness and their families. A tradition of carols at the Tri-State Chorale Christmas offering

MILFORD, PA — Once again, the Tri-State Chorale will present “A Tradition of Carols” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 60 Sussex St. in Port Jervis.  

Directed by Matthew Rupcich, this free 50-minute concert will feature a variety of holiday carols.

It’s a traditional Christmas concert and sing-along. The Chorale, the Delaware Valley High School Chamber Choir and the Dingman-Delaware Children’s Choir will perform, and audience participation is expected.

The concert will be less than an hour long, and masks are required for the audience and singers.

There is no snow date.

Last chance to see ‘Shadows and Light’ at WCAA

HONESDALE, PA — The “Shadows and Light” exhibit explores the interplay of darkness and light, how they create shadow, and how it all affects our perception of something.

The exhibit will close on December 18. It’s currently open at the Wayne County Arts Alliance’s Main Street Gallery, above Missing Pieces. Over 20 artists are exhibiting works.

Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The disappearance of Trudy Solomon

ONLINE — In the mid-1970s, a coffee-shop waitress vanished from the area.

She was found 40 years later in an Alzheimer’s facility in Massachusetts, unable to tell a detective what had happened to her.

Marcy McCreary spent her summers here and always knew she wanted to write about the Catskills. When she came across this true story, she decided to turn it into a novel.

Join the E.B. Crawford Public Library online on Monday, December 20 at 6 p.m. for a talk by McCreary on her novel. She’ll read from the book and then answer questions afterward.

‘A Christmas Carol’ in a radio broadcast

PITTSTON, PA — WVIA Radio presents the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE) production of Charles Dickens’s story of hope and redemption, “A Christmas Carol,” as a radio broadcast on Saturday, December 18 at 3 p.m. 

The adaptation was created by James Goode, who also directed the performance.                                               

Violinist Grace Kenny accompanies the performance. The show was engineered and recorded by Nick McGaw, proprietor of Endless Records in Bloomsburg. Andrew Hubatsek plays Scrooge and Elizabeth Dowd voices the Narrator.

Santa’s coming to Monticello

MONTICELLO, NY — Santa Claus is coming to Monticello on Sunday, December 19. He will be at 343 E. Broadway, Suite 4 in Monticello between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

For only $5, children can have a photo taken with Santa, get a gift, have some hot chocolate, a piece of pie, cookies and more. All proceeds benefit Hope Alive 845.

Wilderness first responder course at Frost Valley YMCA

CLARYVILLE, NY — Frost Valley YMCA will once again host the Wilderness First Responder Certification Course, by Wilderness Medical Associates. This extensive course will be held at Frost Valley’s East Valley Ranch in Claryville from December 28, 2021 to January 3, 2022, with an option to arrive on December 27 at no additional charge. The registration fee includes the course, as well as lodging and meals.

The Wilderness First Responder certification is ideal for outdoor educators, wilderness guides, professional search and rescue teams, troop leaders, or for those who like   exploring the great outdoors.

The course includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary. Frost Valley YMCA is following all New York State COVID-19 guidelines. The course will run at a limited capacity, be held primarily outside and masks and temperature checks will be required.

Food relief benefit concert with Professor Louie & the Crowmatix

HONESDALE, PA — It’s the last concert at the Cooperage for 2021, and it’s a concert with a cause.

Professor Louie & the Crowmatix will perform on Saturday, December 18 at the Cooperage, 1030 Main St. in Honesdale. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m.

The Holiday Food Relief Benefit Concert will donate a portion of each ticket sale to the Wayne County Community Foundation’s Emergency Food Relief Fund, supporting food accessibility services in the county.

Suggested donations are $20 for advanced registration or $25 at the door. Monetary contributions in any amount are appreciated.

Bring your own beverages, or purchase water, coffee or tea from the Cooperage’s cafe.

Attendees are encouraged to wear a mask or face covering.

Ladybug Barn Entertainers will perform at the Tusten Theatre on December 18 and 19.

A ‘Cozy Catskills Christmas’ at the Tusten Theatre

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance calls it a “long, cold road these past two years,” but the Tusten Theatre is reopening and the arts group will present a “Cozy Catskills Christmas,” from Ladybug Barn Entertainers.

The performances will take place on Saturday, December 18 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 19 at 2 p.m.

The group, which is based in Cochecton Center, will perform Christmas classics from Bing Crosby and Vince Guaraldi to Elvis and the Grinch.

COVID-19 safety guidelines will be in effect for attendees and staff. Proof of a complete COVID-19 vaccination must be provided. Facial masks must be worn at all times indoors. The theatre will be limited to 50 percent capacity. If you are feeling ill in any way, for any reason, please do not attend the performance. Anyone who is obviously ill will be kindly asked to leave.

Tickets cost $30, $24 in advance for DVAA members. There is no charge for kids 12 and under.
