NARROWSBURG, NY — There aren’t many places on Earth more beautiful than the Upper Delaware River (in your correspondent’s entirely unbiased opinion).
The restaurant The Laundrette (named after its former life as a laundromat) offers an unparalleled view of that gorgeous location. There’s a porch just a stone’s throw away from the water and with a direct view of the Narrowsburg Bridge.
Just off Narrowsburg’s Main Street, the Laundrette manages to feel both refined and laid back. “Pizzas, salads and drinks,” its website suggests. “Don’t overthink it.” It’s easy not to, in such a beautiful setting.
Your correspondent went for an arugula and Parmesan pizza. The pizza came as a loose assemblage of parts, with the tomato sauce baked into the thin, crunchy crust, topped with a healthy scattering of arugula and a sprinkling of sharp Parmesan. The flavors and the textures paired together nicely, the bite of the cheese and the greens contrasting with the warm complexity of the tomato sauce, all held together by the crunch of the crust.
Chill pop music on the speakers, a cool afternoon with a light smattering of rain, good food—what more could one ask of life in the Upper Delaware?
