HONESDALE, PA — Board-certified urologist Irwin Goldstein, M.D. is seeing patients in the urology clinic of Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He joined his long-time colleague Donald L. Preate Jr., M.D., who started at the Honesdale-based hospital in January.
“I worked with Dr. Preate in several capacities before coming here,” said Dr. Goldstein, “including five years at Delta Medix, his former practice and, prior to that, while he was a resident in urology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.”
Dr. Goldstein said how pleased he was to join his colleague at WMH. “We share a similar patient-care philosophy. Every patient is an individual and deserves to be treated as such.”
Dr. Goldstein’s training took place largely in the Philadelphia area. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology from LaSalle College and a master’s degree in biology from Villanova, he went on to complete medical school at Thomas Jefferson University.
Dr. Goldstein finished residencies in surgery and urology at, respectively, Philadelphia’s Hospital of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the Albert Einstein Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in renal transplantation and vascular access surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Goldstein has been the assistant clinical professor at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and its affiliated hospitals, and assistant professor of clinical urology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Goldstein worked most recently for the Lehigh Valley Health System in the Scranton area.
As a urologist, Dr. Goldstein specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the urinary system—which includes the bladder, kidneys, ureters and urethra. A urologist also treats conditions involving the reproductive organs and the adrenal glands. Contact him as well for urinary tract infections, an enlarged prostate, interstitial cystitis and kidney stones.
Dr. Goldstein hails from a medical family; his father was a pharmacist.
Other specialties at Wayne Memorial include general and interventional cardiology, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology, gastroenterology and general surgery.
