Liberty gets $1 million for commercial corridor

LIBERTY, NY — Sullivan County has secured a $1 million federal infrastructure grant for improving water access on the Old Route 17 Industrial Commercial Corridor in Liberty.

The Sullivan County Partnership for Economic Development, along with the towns of Liberty and Thompson and the village of Liberty, identified the corridor as a target for the creation of new jobs, investment, and tax rateables.

This funding will upgrade the water and sewer infrastructure to make the area more competitive and drive business to the corridor from the light industrial, logistics, supply chain, and production sectors.

The partnership says an improved corridor will diversify the local economy and avert downturns in important industry sectors. The location, halfway between Binghamton and the New York metro area, is ideally located to access a sizable northeast market, according to the partnership.

The partnership thanked U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro for his support of the project.

The partnership, founded in 1994, is a private nonprofit business association focused on creating new business opportunities for its members through developing and expanding sustainable businesses in Sullivan County.
