LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The “History of Japanese Fly Fishing Rods” will be presented as part of “Tenkara Day” on Saturday, May 20 at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum (CFFCM).

The program starts at 10 a.m. in the Wulff Gallery with a tribute to Miyoshi “Mike” Shiozawa, who has been making rods for lure fishing, fly fishing and tenkara for nearly 70 years. As the chair of Tenryu Company, a leading Japanese rod company, he still designs and tests rods.

Misako Ishimura will describe Shiozawa’s role as a rod designer, as she delivers a 90-minute-talk about the “History of Japanese Registration,” which begins at 9:30 a.m. There is no cost to attend.

In the afternoon Ishimura will offer a casting workshop (including Tenkara) that is appropriate for beginners at 1 p.m. near the pond. Chris Stewart and Mike Hogue will give a Tenkara fly-tying demonstration at 1 p.m. in the Wulff Gallery.
