ALBANY, NY — Congressman Chris Gibson, who represents Sullivan, Ulster and several other New York counties, told newspapers this week he will not consider a run to become governor of New York in 2018. Gibson said more than a year ago that he would not seek another term in Congress once this term ends at the end of this year. He had, however, formed a committee to explore a campaign for governor. He became a vocal critic of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and was considered by analysts to be one of the stronger candidates who could run against the governor.
Now, Gibson’s future plans include becoming a visiting lecturer on leadership at Williams College in Massachusetts beginning in 2017.
He said in a statement, “Ultimately, for our family, the opportunity to spend increased time together balanced with a return to academia was one we could not pass up.”
