Petition against Narrowsburg rehab

NARROWSBURG, NY — An online petition against the opening of a drug and alcohol rehab facility is circulating. The petition was emailed to The River Reporter on June 16 and it says, “We, the concerned citizens, home and business owners of the Town of Tusten, hereby express unanimous objection to the Sullivan West School Board’s consideration of the possible sale of the now empty Narrowsburg School to Changes Rehabilitation Center of Florida. A Drug, Alcohol and other Addiction Center in the middle of our town would pose a clear and ongoing danger, will dramatically reduce property values, and would be located directly across the street from a bar as well as the public library. We support rehabilitation in all forms but not in the center of a small hamlet.”

The petition can be found on ipetitions.com with a search of Narrowsburg. As of June 16, the website said the petition had collected 195 signatures, although one of the organizers said they had gathered more that 250 signatures and comments in five days that “demonstrate our great concerns for our community population under 450 ... and the future use of the building in our small hamlet.”
