MONTICELLO, NY — Legislator Kathy LaBuda supports a casino in the Town of Thompson and also perhaps in the Town of Liberty, but she does not support the effort in the Town of Mamakating, which she represents, to obtain a casinos license.
The Mamakating town board has voted in support of a casino to be located at Shawanga Lodge.
At a meeting of the county casino impact committee on April 7, LaBuda said, “I do not think any casinos should be located in the Town of Mamakating, I think it should be in the Town of Thompson or maybe one in Liberty. That’s why I hope the site-selection process needs to take place sooner rather than later, because I think we all need to be on the same page.
“I’ve been sitting in these meetings for six months; I think that the players in the Town of Thompson have what it takes to move the casinos forward. They have the infrastructure. The casino at the Concord is going to include a $500 million water park. It’s important not just to have the casino but also other facilities that the families can enjoy, and Mamakating does not have that.”
