Construction begins on skate park

Posted

Teamskate’s Liberty Skate Park is moving into its construction phase and celebrates the occasion with a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m. at the future skate park site on Darbee Lane and Grant Street.

After many years of fundraising and a prolonged search for the best possible location, the skate park has found its home in an underused section of the Village of Liberty municipal parking lot on Darbee Lane. A site-specific proposal by renowned skate park design firm Pillar Design will be realized over the next months to become a recreational environment that satisfies all skill-levels of skateboarders and bmx-bikers.

Teamskate is a youth development project of the Liberty Community Development Corporation. The Liberty skate park is made possible through the support of the Village and Town of Liberty and Sullivan County BOCES. Funding for the park comes from the Gerry Foundation, the Louis R. Cappelli Foundation, the Tony Hawke Foundation, First Niagara Bank, a New York State Community Project grant, and donations from many individual community members and supporters of the skate park.
