Monticello police arrested Anthony Garrett, 26, of Monticello on December 27. Garrett was charged with felony scheme to defraud in the first degree. Garrett was arrested at 9:45 p.m. on Broadway after police received a complaint that Garrett was soliciting for donations for the IBAM boxing club. Garrett had no affiliation with the boxing club. A person who was affiliated with the club saw what Garrett was doing and alerted Monticello police. When arrested, Garrett had a clipboard with IBAM flyers and a sheet of paper with the names of 13 people listing them as donating funds. Garrett was arraigned before Village of Monticello justice Josephine Finn and remanded to the Sullivan County jail without bail pending further court action.
