The baseball league that uses the ball field in the Flats has been looking for a shed for a few years in which to house equipment and from which to sell concessions, and on July 5, they got their wish. Kevin Freda, the owner of K&D construction, and his son Kyle formally donated a shed they built to the Town of Tusten.

The sale of concessions can go a long way toward paying for equipment for the six teams that use the field. Kyle said that, at an all-star game near the end of June, concession sales reached about $360.

Kevin said that he and Kyle decided to donate the materials and labor for the shed because the town has a very tight budget and can’t afford to pay for one. Other businesses in the community also pitched in; for example, the roof shingles came from Narrowsburg Lumber, and Lava Towing moved the shed onto the field.

Kyle, who used to play in the field, said the shed would be put to good use. Kevin said, “It’s about the community. Everybody gives a little—it comes out to be a lot in the end.”

The shed was dedicated to Dawn Curreri’s late son David, who used to play on the field. He passed away in July 2010 in an ATV accident.
