It’s an exhibit called, in part, Strange, Kozmic Experience. Devotees of the music of what was then called the counter-culture in the 1960s will associate those words with Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.

They were three superstar performers who all died within a few months of each other, and were all 27 years old at the time.

The Touring Exhibit was created by the Grammy Museum at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, CA, and the very first stop for the show is the Museum at Bethel Woods. The Grammy Museum is associated with the Recording Academy, which hosts arguably the world’s most famous music awards program each year.

Bob Santelli, CEO of The Grammy Museum, said one of the things that made Joplin, Morrison and Hendrix such powerful and lasting artists was that they were working within a back drop of social turmoil. He said, “When you have social and political discourse and protest and people in a basic state of revolution, more times than not, you’re going to get a situation where artists are able to rise to the occasion and reflect that in music.”
