NARROWSBURG, NY — Ed Boyer, a member of the Tusten, Highland, Lumberland VFW Post #6427, walked among the headstones on May 24, placing flags on the graves of veterans. At the Glen Cove Cemetery on Kirks Road, some of the veterans graves are easy to spot, because they have clear markers meant to hold a small flags.
Other graves are marked with a stone marker in the ground that have faded and through the years have become a bit hard to read, but Boyar inspects them carefully, and with the help of some associates, they tried to place a flag on the grave of every veteran.
Boyar said it’s usually a nice day in May when this ritual takes place every year. He said he’s not particularly fond of cemeteries, but he enjoys this activity; he said it feels like he’s doing a good thing.
