PLEASANT MOUNT, PA — A blaze broke out in a barn housing about 110 cows on January 9, and the fire killed 79 cows. The rest were rescued and moved to another building. The blaze erupted at the Jonas family Cold Springs Farm near Pleasant Mount. Firefighters battled the fire for about seven hours in very cold weather.
No people were lost in the fire, but a member of the Honesdale Fire Department slipped on the ice and broke his leg.
The barn was completely destroyed. The fire was determined to be accidental.
A GoFundme page (www.gofundme.com/help-cold-spring-farm-jonas-family) to assist the Jonas Family was established, and by January 16, $8,545 of a $9,000 goal had been pledged by friends and neighbors.
A post on the page reads, “The farming community is a family, we care for each other and will support each other through it all, and I hope by creating this GoFundMe more of the community can help. Any little bit could help and if you can’t give, we ask you to just keep them in your prayers! Thank you to anyone who gives or even takes their time to read this. Thoughts, prayers, and endless amount of love to the Jonas family.
