Bethel Lions celebrate 50 years of service

The Bethel Lions held an anniversary dinner at the Eagles Nest in Bloomingburg on June 16.

The Lions, a committed group of Bethel volunteers have been active over these many years serving and supporting the community by providing a number of services. Their good work includes, but is not limited to:

• The Lions “See Program” provides early intervention and screening for children with eye and sight issues

• Collecting used eye glasses for donation

• Financial help to people who need eye exams or eyeglasses

• Providing help for people hearing problems

• Educational Scholarships

• Litter Plucks

• Special assistance for those in need during the holidays

In addition to celebrating this anniversary milestone, the Lions welcomed distinguished Lions and community guests from the region, installed new officers, raised money with a raffle, and presented the following awards: Lion Rose Bogaert was presented with the Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award;  Lion Christine Burlingame was named Lion of the Year; retired Duggan Elementary School teacher, Margaret “Peggy” Kennedy was honored with the Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award for her outstanding community service.
