On November 13, 2015 State Police at Liberty responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Mueller Rd in the Town of Cochecton. Upon arrival, it was determined that a verbal altercation between two men ended up with one of the subjects retrieving a loaded hunting rifle and firing it several times. Steven Kautz, age 32 was taken into custody without incident as a result.
Kautz was charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a felony. He was additionally charged with the misdemeanors of Menacing 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree. He was arraigned in the Town of Cochecton Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail with bail set at $15,000 cash or $15,000 bond.
