Kauneonga Lake couple arrested for possession of stolen property

Monticello Police arrested Lucille Dumas (48) and Reginald Jackson (46) both of Kuaneonga Lake on Wednesday 4/16/14. Dumas was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree and misdemeanors for criminal possession of stolen property in the 5th degree and obstructing governmental administration. Jackson was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree and misdemeanors for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree and obstructing governmental administration. Jackson was also wanted by New York state parole on an arrest warrant as a parole absconder.

Dumas and Jackson were arrested at 2 PM Wednesday following an investigation into the use of a stolen credit card at the Family Dollar store in the Village of Monticello. Dumas and Jackson attempted to purchase $180.00 worth of items from the store with the stolen credit card. When the transaction was denied due to credit card being reported as stolen, Dumas and Jackson then left the store. Store employees then alerted Monticello Police and also gave a description of the vehicle that the pair was seen leaving in. Monticello Police quickly located the vehicle that was being operated by Jackson on Peasant Street. Further investigation showed that Dumas had stolen a wallet from a restroom at the Monticello Walmart in the Town of Thompson earlier in the day. An officer also found Dumas was in possession of a gold necklace also taken from the stolen wallet. Officers recovered the stolen wallet from had been thrown the vehicle being operated by Jackson prior to being stopped by officers. Jackson was operating the vehicle with 8 active license suspensions at the time and was also wanted by NYS parole as a parole absconder.

The Sullivan county sheriff office additionally charged Dumas with felony grand larceny in the 4th degree for stealing the wallet at Walmart.

Jackson and Dumas were arraigned in the Town of Forestburg justice court and remanded to the Sullivan county jail without bail. Jackson and Dumas will reappear in the Village of Monticello justice court on Friday 4/25/14 at 10 AM.
