On Friday March 22nd 2013 the Village of Liberty Police Department Detective Division along with the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office and the Sullivan County Department of Family Services Fraud Investigation Unit concluded an investigation into fraudulent welfare practices with the arrest of two individuals.

Arrested was Annamarie Izzo 35, of Liberty, NY and Cheryl Johnson 48 , of Mongaup Valley, NY. Both were charged with 33 counts of falsifying business records in the 1st degree and attempted grand larceny in the 3rd degree, all felonies.

Police investigation revealed that Izzo and Johnson had been falsely completing and submitting vouchers to Sullivan County for Johnson to be paid by the Department of Family Services for child care services allegedly provided to Izzo, which in fact had never occurred.

The fraud occurred between the periods of September 2012 through March of 2013 and resulted in Izzo and Johnson attempting to fraudulently obtain payments in an amount exceeding $3,000. The investigation is ongoing as to the extent of the fraud and additional charges may be pending.

Izzo was arraigned in the Town of Thompson Court on March 20th 2013 and remanded to Sullivan County in lieu of $50,000 bail. Cheryl Johnson was being held at the Liberty Police Department awaiting arraignment at the time of this press release.
