District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Herbert Ploschke, 68, of Wurtsboro, N.Y. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to a total of 17 years in state prison and 10 years of post release supervision for the rape and sexual abuse of two minor girls by County Judge Michael McGuire.
Ploschke pled guilty to two counts of Rape in the 2nd Degree and one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the 2nd Degree, all class D violent felonies, for the abuse of a 13 year old child and also pled guilty to Sexual Abuse in the 2nd Degree, a class A misdemeanor, for having sexual contact with another 11 year old child. Ploschke was also charged in Orange County with abusing the same children and pled guilty to those charges, as well, and is pending sentencing later this month. He is expected to receive a concurrent sentence in that case.
Farrell said that Plotschke was arrested after a joint investigation by the Orange County Child Abuse Unit and the Sullivan County Family Violence Response Team. “The investigation here was thorough and professional and the result is that a child predator has been removed from our community for a lengthy period of time where he cannot harm any other children. The Sullivan County Family Violence Response Team has worked very hard to protect our children and will continue to do so.”, Farrell said. A permanent order of protection was also issued for the children and Ploschke was ordered to register as a sex offender.
