LIBERTY, NY — The public can learn to raise backyard chickens for eggs or meat at a workshop on Tuesday, May 13. Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County staff will offer an educational opportunity from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the intricacies and mechanics of raising chickens at home. This class will be held at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center.
Michelle Lipari, CCE’s agriculture community educator, will present on various topics including breed selection, egg hatching, raising chicks and adult birds, feed and nutrition, equipment, healthcare and the regulations on selling eggs and meat.
The cost is $10 per person. Space is limited for this long-time favorite class, so pre-registration with non-refundable payment is recommended by May 9. Walk-ins are welcome. Registration and more information can be obtained by calling CCE at 845/292-6180 or emailing Michelle at mml249@cornell.edu.
