Classical music all over town: Milford’s first Outdoor Classical Music Celebration

Posted

MILFORD, PA — Milford’s first-ever Outdoor Classical Music Celebration will take place on Saturday, August 6 starting at 12 noon. Various musicians and ensembles will perform on sidewalks, in the park, in a landmarked church and in the Milford Theatre, all at no charge. What’s more, the public will get to judge them in the Upper Delaware Valley’s answer to “American Idol.”

The musicians performing pieces by Bach, Mozart and other immortals range from up-and-coming members of Gen Y (e.g. New York City’s Shanghai Strings) to veteran ensembles such as Brass Quintessence and players from the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, now in its 22nd season. Indoors, the Tri-State Summer Chorale will perform at the Church of the Good Shepherd and Saint John the Evangelist, with accompaniment on the church’s Schantz organ.

The public is invited to grade the performances, and the three top vote-getters will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Milford Theatre. Other musicians will then join them for a spontaneous semi-orchestral performance.

Kindred Spirits Arts Programs, the producer of this event, is a volunteer-run not-for-profit, which has been bringing quality entertainment to area audiences and programs to school students since 2002.
