NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Wayne Choralaires’ Christmas concerts, a popular tradition for over 30 years, begin their 2014 holiday season with two concerts on Sunday, November 30 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 11th and Church Streets, Honesdale. The concerts, under the direction of Patricia Spoor, will continue on Thursday, December 4, at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and Sunday, December 7 at 2:30 at B.V.M. Queen of Peace Church, Church and Chestnut Streets, Hawley.
This year’s program, titled “Noel, Noel!” is a mixture of sacred and secular holiday tunes, from the opening strains of “Adeste Fideles” to the concert’s climax with the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah, to the Choralaires’ traditional Christmas closing, “Peace, Peace,” interwoven with “Silent Night.”
The program also includes such tunes as “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and a “Snow!” medley that includes “Let It Snow,” “A Marshmallow World,” and “Winter Wonderland,” plus a doo-wop version of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”
Admission is free, but free-will offerings will be gratefully accepted to help defray the costs of music.
