NARROWSBURG, NY — Hannah Ross of Narrowsburg, a senior at Juilliard, a member of the Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra and a recipient of the 2008 Bodenstein Music Scholarship, along with members of Juilliard’s music, drama and dance divisions, will come to the Tusten Theatre on March 17 to perform and to show a slide show presentation related to work they will be doing this summer, when they will travel to Arusha Tanzania to lead workshops in music, dance and drama at the Umoja Youth Empowerment Centre.

This marks the third year that Ross has made the journey to the Centre (www.umoja.com.au), a registered NGO that services young people who have had minimal schooling, but who aspire to something more. “Each day,” Ross reports, “the students come ready to partake in activities such as listening to works by Beethoven and Shostokovicz and drawing pictures that portray what they envision, or performing skits and expressing themselves in dance.” The Umoja Centre experience prepares them for secondary school for which they will need sponsors to help defray the costs. The program starts at 8 p.m. The $15 admission fee will be used to support the Umoja Youth Empowerment Centre.
