Outdoor adventure at Wally Lake Fest

HAWLEY, PA — The second annual Wally Lake Fest, scheduled for Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28, will feature events located throughout the Lake Region including the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center, Downtown Hawley, area businesses and on the lake.

On Saturday, the Boat, Watercraft and Seadoo Show will be at Wallenpaupack Area High School from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. There will be a boat parade, sponsored by Davis R. Chant Realtors, on Lake Wallenpaupack, and free sailboat rides at the Lighthouse Harbor Marina, Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., sponsored by the Paupack Sailing Club-Pocono School of Sailing (570/857-9050). At the Palmyra Township Public Beach, there will be a sand sculpture contest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a theme of cartoon characters. The cost is $5 per person, $10 per team.

Downtown Hawley will get into the action as well, hosting a reverse scavenger hunt from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday: pick up a list of photos representing places and things around town, then be the first to identify them for a great selection of prizes.

On both Saturday and Sunday there will be free PPL Dam & Power House Tours at the PPL Environmental Learning Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (570/253-7076), kite flying at the township beach, fly casting demos at the WAHS ball field (Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), kayak trials sponsored by Alice’s Wonderland on the shoreline in front of the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and more.

The Tour de Towpath, at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center, sponsored by Northeast Wilderness Experience, will be on Sunday at 10 a.m. Take a bike ride that starts at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center and heads down to the Lackawaxen River. Shuttle service will be provided for a one-way trip. Bike rental and shuttle cost $35 per person, shuttle only $10 per person. Pack a lunch. Call 570/352-3444.
