ELDRED, NY — Sullivan Public is running a series of workshops this winter. Next up, on Saturday, February 1 from noon to 3 p.m., Sullivan Public founder Jessie Lazar will host a ceramic workshop. Lazar has been teaching ceramics for nearly 15 years at a range of New York City studios, most recently holding sold-out classes at Gasworks in Brooklyn.
The spirit of this workshop, which will focus on planters, is “let’s get back together and play with clay,” says Lazar. “In this dark season, let’s make ceramic vessels to bring some vibrant green life indoors.” The group will focus on a new technique to build planters and accompanying drainage plates.
Each participant will make a planter. The pieces will be finished, glazed and fired in the colors of your choosing. There will also be an assortment of small plants to take with you when your planter is done a couple of weeks later.
The next workshop will be on the topic of publishing your own writing, led by Bizzy Coy, on Tuesday, February 18.
Sullivan Public is located at 16 Proctor Road, behind the public library. For more details on the program and to sign up, visit www.sullivanpublic.com/store/workshops.
