WHSB director resigns

HONESDALE PA — Some surprising news came across the agenda at the committee meeting for the Wayne Highlands School Board on June 8.

Frederic Diehl, the board’s region 1 director, stepped down from his position effective that night. Diehl was appointed to his position on April 12, filling in for the position that former director John Lowe left vacant.

Region 1 covers the townships of Preston, Manchester, Buckingham, Scott and Damascus.

The reasoning behind Diehl’s departure from the board was to place more of a focus on his business, Bluestone Environmental, Inc. He cited the labor shortage as one of his concerns.

“It’s a stressful time at the moment trying to be a business owner—trying to find employees that want to work for you when you have a lot of work to get completed. I’ve... decided to step down from the board and withdraw from the general election in November to focus on my business at this time,” said Diehl.

Diehl’s colleagues at the board wished him luck and thanked him for his interest and efforts.

“I appreciate everyone’s support through the interview process to today, thank you everyone,” added Diehl.

The board is currently working to inform the bureau of elections. By their next meeting, the board hoped to share a date where they would conduct a public meeting regarding interviews.
