Webinar on nutrition for working horses

ONLINE — Penn State Extension is offering a free webinar, “Nutrition for the Performance Horse,” on crafting diets for working horses based on exercise type, intensity and nutrition for different disciplines. The event will occur from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23.

This webinar is designed for horse owners, trainers and enthusiasts; those interested in equine nutrition; and riders and competitors.

Performance horses are not just show jumpers, eventers, reiners or endurance horses, organizers noted. From top competitors to the trusty school horse giving lessons several days a week, performance spans many levels.

This session will explore tailored diets for horses across various disciplines, offering practical examples and insights.

The webinar will also cover:

What performance is and how it encompasses more than people think.

Nutrient basics and where energy comes from.

Why different types of exercise can require different types of diet.

How to determine what light, medium and heavy workloads look like and how to feed accordingly.

Examples of feeding horses participating in different disciplines.

Penn State Extension offers this event at no charge to participants. Space is limited, so registration by 12 noon on October 23 is required to receive the link to access the webinar.
