Wayne Memorial looking for new site in Carbondale

HONESDALE, PA — Starting Monday, April 4, Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Carbondale lab and radiology services, plus the primary care services of the Carbondale Family Health Center on Salem Avenue, will be relocated due to a broken elevator.

A working elevator is required by law for handicapped access.

The hospital is looking right now for an alternative lab/radiology location in Carbondale. In the meantime, the hospital’s Waymart lab/radiology site, 621 Roosevelt Highway (Route 6), is to reopen Monday, April 4.

As of April 4, Sharon Savakinas will be tentatively working out of the Forest City Family Health Center; Ken Bannon and Dr. TJ Luma will be tentatively located at the Waymart Family Health Center.

Additionally, the Women’s Health Center services will be offered at the Honesdale Women’s Health Center office at 110 Park St. in Honesdale.

All patients who are scheduled are being called; the Carbondale Family Health Center phone number will also continue to be manned to help redirect patients.

Wayne Memorial Laboratory Services Manager John Romano said the hospital was told by the Salem Avenue landlord that the elevator could take up to eight weeks to be functional again. “We need to serve our patients now,” said Romano, “so we’re searching for an alternative site that’s convenient for our patients.”

Counterfeit COVID-19 tests in circulation

NATIONWIDE — ACON Laboratories, Inc. (“ACON Laboratories”), the legal manufacturer of the Flowflex™ COVID-19 Antigen Home Test (FDA Emergency Use Authorization EUA210494), has identified the U.S. distribution of unauthorized, adulterated and misbranded counterfeit product having the trade name “Flowflex SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Test (Self-Testing).”

ACON Laboratories is not importing the test into the U.S., as it is only authorized for sale in Europe and other markets, under the CE mark. This press release serves as the public announcement that this CE-marked product is being recalled from the U.S. market.

The “Flowflex SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Test (Self-Testing)” cannot be legally imported, distributed, or used in the U.S. market as it has not been approved, cleared, or authorized by the FDA.

Pike County’s home-delivered meals program feeds the hungry

PIKE COUNTY, PA — Volunteers are delivering meals to 140 seniors in Pike County. The home-delivered meals program services the entire county.

The meals program keeps seniors living independently and healthier at home, said Robin Skibber, executive director of the Area Agency on Aging.

But it also takes the help of volunteer drivers and those who help prepare the meals.

Delivery days have been downsized due to increasing costs. The hope is for an increase in donations and volunteers who can give their time.

To get involved or just learn more, call the Pike Area Agency on Aging at 570/775-5550 or email rskibber@pikepa.org.
