Wayne Memorial cath lab re-accredited

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Center has been re-accredited by Corazon, an accreditation agency approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The one-year accreditation certificate arrived in the middle of National Heart Month.

The center completed a rigorous requirement process that included providing quarterly reports and 24-hour coverage for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) emergencies.

PCI, formerly known as angioplasty with stent, is a procedure that uses a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) to open up blood vessels in the heart that have been narrowed by plaque buildup. This is a life-threatening condition called atherosclerosis.

In addition to PCI procedures, the Heart and Vascular Center provides diagnostic and interventional peripheral vascular procedures.

The center opened in 2016, and recently marked the 2,000th patient treated.
