HONESDALE, PA — Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell announced that Jade Stauffer, 32, of  Honesdale, has been charged in the death of Gabriel Wagner, 32, of Honesdale.

Wayne County woman charged with homicide by vehicle

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell announced that Jade Stauffer, 32, of  Honesdale, has been charged in the death of Gabriel Wagner, 32, of Honesdale.  

 On Aug. 11, on State Route 670, Honesdale Borough, Ms. Stauffer, who was  driving a Kia Sport, crossed over the double yellow lines and struck Mr. Wagner head on. Mr.  Wagner was driving a Suzuki DR 200 Dual Sport. Mr. Wagner died as a result of his injuries  sustained in the crash.  

After the accident, Honesdale Borough Police Department obtained Ms. Stauffer’s  medical records and blood samples pertaining to this crash. The records showed Ms. Stauffer’s  blood to be positive for the presence of Amphetamines and Cannabinoids. The blood sample  was sent to an independent lab for further analysis. Those results are still pending from the lab.  

A reconstruction of the crash also revealed that Ms. Stauffer was travelling at a high rate  of speed and in a reckless manner. The data retrieved from the Kia Sport indicated that  five  seconds prior to the crash, Ms. Stauffer was traveling 79. 5 MPH, and at 2. 5 seconds prior to the  crash Ms. Stauffer was traveling 84. 5 MPH and at impact the Kia was traveling at 71. 4 MPH.  This section of SR 670 is posted as a 35 MPH speed limit zone.  

Ms. Stauffer is charged with counts related to homicide by vehicle while driving under  the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, homicide by  vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and controlled substance, and other driving  violations.
