HONESDALE, PA — Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) will hold Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster clinics on the first, second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, beginning Wednesday, October 6.

Clinics take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Stourbridge Professional Complex, (former Honesdale Pulmonary office) at 600 Maple Ave. in Honesdale.  On the third Wednesday of the month, starting October 20, Pike County clinics will be conducted at the Pike Training Center, 135 Pike County Blvd. in Lords Valley. Registration is required for all.

Booster shots will be administered in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations for those who have completed the primary series of Pizer-BioNTech (first and second doses) at least six months ago. Included are people age 65 and over and residents in long-term care settings;  individuals 18 and over with underlying medical conditions and individuals aged 18 to 64 years who are at increased risk of COVID exposure and transmission because of their occupational or institutional setting (health care, first responders, schools, correctional facilities, homeless shelters, public transit, grocery stores).  For a full current list, visit https://bit.ly/3ihmJ9R.

“It’s important for those who received the Moderna vaccine to know it is not yet recommended for boosters based on data indicating better efficacy,” said James Cruse, M.D., medical director of WMCHC. “They may or may not be needed. We should wait on the data.”

Appointments are required for WMCHC’s Pfizer booster clinics, with online registration. Schedule an appointment by visiting www.wmchc.net and clicking on “Schedule a COVID vaccine—Wayne Memorial Hospital.” Scroll down, locate the booster vaccine section to find dates and locations of open clinics. If you created a profile previously, you can use that. If not, you will need to create one. Instructions on how to do so are also on this page. Those without internet access can call 570/253-8197 for assistance.

WMCHC continues to offer first- and second-dose COVID vaccines at all nine of its primary care offices sites as well as at Honesdale Pediatric Center by appointment. Third dose Moderna vaccines for the immunocompromised are offered as well. Please visit www.wmchc.net for specific information.
