USDA releases January egg report

HARRISBURG, PA — Newly reported data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reveals that while New York’s January egg production was up from the previous year’s, Pennsylvania experienced a downturn in production.

Empire State egg production totaled 154.7 million during January 2025, up 8 percent from January 2024. The total number of layers averaged 5.96 million, up 7 percent from last year. And January egg production per 100 layers was 2,596 eggs, a 2 percent increase from the previous year.

Pennsylvania egg production, meanwhile, totaled 681.8 million during January 2025, down 4 percent from January 2024. Production included 634.6 million table eggs, and 47.2 million hatching eggs. The total number of layers during January 2025 averaged about 26.2 million, down 6 percent from last year. January egg production per 100 layers was 2,606 eggs, up 2 percent from the same timeframe in 2024.
