PENNSYLVANIA AND NEW YORK — According to United States Department of Agriculture’s milk production reports, milk production in New York during November 2024 totaled 1.30 billion pounds, up 1.2 percent from November 2023. The average milk price received by New York farmers in October 2024, at $25.60 per hundredweight, is $0.30 lower than September 2024 but $2 higher than in October a year ago.
Milk production in Pennsylvania during November 2024 totaled 791 million pounds, up 1 percent from November 2023. The average milk price received by Pennsylvania farmers in October 2024, at $25.40 per hundredweight, is $0.30 lower than September 2024 but $2.50 higher than October a year ago.
The number of milk cows in New York State remained steady between 2023 and 2024, at 630,000. In Pennsylvania, the herd also remained virtually steady, with 466,000 cows in 2023 and 465,000 in 2024.
