Upper Delaware Council to host Feb. 17 meeting for litter sweep volunteers

Posted

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) invites municipal officials, beautification group members, residents, business owners, regional organizations, and all interested people to attend a Zoom informational session about the 2021 Upper Delaware Litter Sweep on Wednesday, February 17.

The meeting can be accessed here or by dialing 646/558-8656 and entering the meeting ID (982 4334 2827) when prompted.

UDC is collaborating with Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River Corridor communities to coordinate land-based litter clean-ups during Earth Day week, April 17 to 24.

The February 17 virtual meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Participants will learn about how to get involved in the planning of municipal litter sweeps, the role of Litter Leaders, how to promote in their local communities, and how to solicit volunteers.

Litter sweeps are intended to occur in the following Upper Delaware municipalities: the New York State Towns of Hancock, Fremont, Delaware, Cochecton, Tusten, Highland, Lumberland, and Deerpark; and the Pennsylvania Townships of Buckingham, Manchester, Damascus, Berlin, Lackawaxen, Shohola and Westfall.

Original plans for an Upper Delaware Litter Sweep to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in April 2020 had to be canceled due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions on available resources, work permits, and trash disposal facilities.

This initiative is partially supported by a Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development (DCED) grant secured for the UDC by PA Representative Jonathan Fritz, Representative Mike Peifer, and Senator Lisa Baker which has assisted with organizational work and public outreach.

For more information on future planning sessions and to sign up to volunteer labor or services, please contact the UDC at 845/252-3022 or email Ashley Hall-Bagdonas at ashley@upperdelawarecouncil.org
