MONTICELLO, NY — A woman is dead and a man is in serious condition after a shooting early this morning in the Village of Monticello.

At 12:33 a.m. on Tuesday, the village police responded to a 911 report of a shooting outside building #2 of the Sleepy Hollow Apartment Complex located at Terri Lane. Responding officers located the two adult victims inside a vehicle. Both had sustained gunshot wounds after their vehicle had driven into a parking lot, according to Lt. Mark Johnstone of the village police.

The woman was transported to Garnet Catskill Medical Center in Harris, where she was declared dead. The man was transported to Garnet Orange Medical Center in serious condition. The names and ages of the victims are being withheld at this time. 

The incident is being investigated by the Village of Monticello Police, the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office, and the NYS Police, which will be the lead agency in the investigation going forward.

Also assisting at the scene were the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile Medic/Empress EMS, and the Monticello Fire Department.
