TUSTEN, NY — “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,” was one of the opening anthems at the historic Ten Mile River Baptist Church on May 29. The non-denominational Memorial Day service was held at the Ten Mile River Baptist Church. The poignant service included a flag-folding and P.O.W. M.I.A recognition ritual. The Tusten Settlement Associaiton service, designed by American Legion Post #1363 member Ralph Huebner, featured special music by Luanne Sheard and Gary Skotch, accompanied by Nancy Hankins on the pump organ. Pastor Phyllis Haynes provided the call to workship with Rev. Steve Knutsen offering the Scripture reading and prayer. A graveside memorial service was hosted by Tusten-Highland-Lumberland Post 6427 Commander Peter Carmeci, with members of the VFW and American Legion Post #1363. Skotch provided taps at the conclusion of the three-gun salute.
