DAMASCUS TOWNSHIP, PA — On Sunday, April 27, our club gathered for the bi-yearly Roadside Cleanup effort to celebrate Earth Day.
Two years ago, our club became official Adopt-A-Highway participants with PennDOT. Members ages eight and older clean up trash along Rutledgedale Road, Wescott Road and a portion of Galilee Road in the Rutledgedale area.
Along with our parents and leaders, we watch required training videos so that everyone stays safe while on the roads.
This year we collected over 23 bags of trash and other various items for PennDOT to dispose of.
Our club has been cleaning up area roadsides for over 25 years.
While the older members were cleaning up roadsides, our youngest members, the Cloverbuds, started a new project just for them. They cleaned up debris and discarded items at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee. The members, parents and leaders collected over 12 bags of trash.
Thank you to Rutledge Excavating, Inc. for generously assisting our Cloverbuds in disposing of the trash. This project helps the cemetery groundskeeper prepare for a busy spring and summer maintenance season.
Following our cleanups, the club enjoyed pizza and refreshments at the Unity Grange Hall in Galilee. We also conducted a business meeting to further plan for upcoming events.
All are invited to come and see our Bake Sale Fundraiser offerings on Tuesday, May 20 from noon to 8 p.m. This fundraiser is being held during Election Day at the Unity Grange Hall, 554 Galilee Road, Damascus. All proceeds benefit our numerous club community service projects and club activities.
