MONTICELLO, NY — The Town of Thompson has announced the completion of the Thompson Banner Project. Twenty-six banners bearing artwork by 26 Thompson residents of all ages and experience levels have been hung on light poles along town roadways. Contributing artists range from a local professional artist to a young child in the Monticello Central School District. The town encouraged the public to submit artwork by announcing the project in local newspapers, online at its website and on social media, while also reaching out directly to local schools within Thompson. All artists who submitted work have at least one piece featured on a banner. The banners can also be seen online at www.townofthompson.com/news/banner-project-2024/.
The Thompson Banner Project was created as part of the town’s strategy to “Grow the Gateways” by enhancing and improving entrances to Thompson, ensuring that Thompson looks its best for residents and visitors.
“The objective of the banner project was to spotlight the work of local artists while simultaneously beautifying our roadways. The banners make a strong visual statement that Thompson is a place where we all take pride in our community: this is a great place to live, work and play,” said Town of Thompson Deputy Supervisor Melinda Meddaugh.
The banner project is the latest step taken to increase the visual appeal around Thompson. Other recent improvements along key entrances and roadways include design guidelines for local businesses, new gardens and signage at roundabouts and highway interchanges, LED lighting, hanging baskets and more.
The banners can be seen on the roadways, roundabouts and entrances along the Route 42 corridor, East Broadway, Route 17B, and the I-86 Interchange 105.
