[Note: The following is offered with a deep bow of appreciation to C.S. Lewis, author of “The Screwtape Letters,” which you really should read, whether you believe in Christian demonology or not. Screwdisk is a senior Executive Vice-Presidemon for Sales and Acquisitions for HellCorp. Scumbucket, his nephew, is a young Tempter-in-Training. See www.screwdisk.wordpress.com for more.]

My dear little Scumbucket,

Regarding your last query, I am not at liberty to fully discuss the fate of Mr. Trump with you; although, it does appear that he has failed to provide his promised quota of souls. His agreement with us may lapse, and then he would no longer enjoy the protection from accountability we have been providing for him. My contacts in the Legal Department tell me that he is trying to renegotiate the terms of his contract, but I doubt that he will be successful.

There is some discussion among the Lower Councils about what to do with him when he eventually arrives. (We are very confident that he will not repent since he lacks the capability of admitting any mistakes or weaknesses!) Our Research and Development Team have expressed great interest in taking him in for study and analysis, with an eye towards possible replication. This would have the additional benefit of isolating him from the general population; we do not want him to organize a takeover, after all!

But all this has very little to do with you and your situation. Your job is to take advantage of the circumstances that we have engineered for you, and encourage your clients to continue wandering down the path that leads to our gates. Along the way, we also want them to generate as much negativity as possible, in the form is fear, anger, rage, hatred and so on, since this provides us the energy on which we feed.

And in this regard, Mr. Trump has indeed exceeded expectations. Of course, the credit does not belong to him alone. We, and our dupes amongst the humans, have been working assiduously for decades now to create and maintain the present delicious atmosphere of distrust and division.

So, any gestures towards real justice and true reconciliation—which would require such disgusting qualities as courage, repentance, humility, empathy and honesty on all sides—are to be sabotaged by every means at our disposal.

With some, such as more moderate Democrats, we will stress the false theme of “maintaining unity” instead, as we did in 2009 after Bush, dissuading the pursuit of accountability against those who have truly done wrong. With others, such as Trump’s conservative Christian followers, we will continue to encourage the feelings of persecution, resentment and victimhood that have proven so effective. Among some of Trump’s opponents on the left, their frustrated desire to extract justice should not be quashed but, instead, be pushed too far, toward a desire for vengeance and deadly retribution. And finally, let us pay careful attention to those who would attempt to build upon what Trump has done, encouraging their ambitions, indulging their egos and gradually directing them towards ever-darker levels of cruelty and chicanery.

Of course, Scumbucket, the majority of your clients are ordinary citizens who are just trying to navigate through confusing times. These circumstances can be used to undermine their faith, increase their fear and uncertainty, and even make them question the existence of objective truth.

Everything is in place. If we play our cards right, we may yet set this continent aflame. Now get out there and cause some bad trouble! We’re hungry!

Your ravenous uncle,

Screwdisk

Trump, January 6, Capitol
