You shall not revel in our constrainment
Curséd plague, foul maker of forlornness,
Nor prison us in woeful malcontent
Or sunder our souls from passion’s caress!
Toothless are you to crush our minds’ delight
When bright we behold each new day making
A melody to set one’s heart alight
And awaken joy at dawn’s first breaking.
You can’t dam our dreams, or leash freedom’s voice
Or blind eager eyes from sweet meadow’s view!
No slave our spirit be, let all rejoice
In ev’ry quotidian task we do.
For our courage shall break your hateful chain
And find Happiness steady as the rain.

peace, turbulent times, in the flow, river, outdoors, poetry
