Dementia education and support

HONESDALE, PA — On Monday, October 7, Wayne Memorial Hospital and the local Alzheimer’s Association will launch a new education and support group for people diagnosed with early-stage dementia or Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. The free six-week session will be held on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in a conference room at the hospital.

Attending all sessions is highly recommended. They are open to residents in Wayne and surrounding counties. Space is limited, however, and registration is required. To register, call the 24/7 Alzheimer’s Association helpline at 800/272-3900, Social Engagement Programs.

Sullivan County workplace wellness summit

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — Catskill Regional Medical Center will host the upcoming Sullivan County Workplace Wellness Summit being held on Friday, October 4, at 5 New Hope Community Dr.
The program will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This one-day training is a collaborative effort among Catskill Regional Medical Center, the American Heart Association, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Eat Smart New York, HealtheConnections, Public Health, Sullivan 180, Sullivan Renaissance and Tobacco Free Action Communities that have all teamed up to provide a comprehensive day of education, information and inspiration to those who wish to grow a culture of health at their business or organization.

This training will feature speakers from regional and local offices who specialize in wellness committee development, health policy implementation and turn-key worksite wellness programs.

Wayne Memorial CT staff earns gold seal

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Imaging Department has received the American College of Radiology’s full three-year accreditation in Computed Tomography or CT. The CT team underwent a rigorous review to meet testing criteria in clinical image quality, phantom image quality (a specially designed image to evaluate and tune the imaging device) and radiation dose limits for children and adults. In addition to image quality, the criteria included personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

Wayne Memorial’s Imaging Services Department performs approximately 13,500 CT scan annually.

Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Imaging Services Department also offers digital mammography, X-rays, bone density scans, general and vascular ultrasound, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and PET scans. Digital mammograms are also available via the hospital’s mobile mammography van, which offers on-site bone density scans in Wayne and Pike counties.
