MONTICELLO, NY — Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan announced that Michael Boyles, 31, of Swan Lake, was convicted of Robbery in the First Degree before the Sullivan County Court. By his guilty plea today, Boyles admitted that he forcibly stole cigarettes and beer from the Mobil gas station on North Main Street in the Village of Liberty on March 29, 2020 while he was armed with a knife. Boyles was apprehended by members of the Village of Liberty Police Department within minutes of the robbery and taken into custody.
Galligan said, “This defendant’s actions put this victim in immediate fear for his safety. I’m pleased that the clerk was able to escape to a safe location during this robbery, and I am pleased that the Sullivan County community will be safeguarded from this defendant’s violent acts for several years to come.” Galligan thanked the Liberty Police Department for its immediate response and thorough investigation into this case, remarking on the professionalism consistent with their commitment to public safety.
Boyles is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in prison with 5 years of post-release supervision on January 13, 2022, before County Court Judge Jim Farrell.
