Hello, I am so sorry I did not have a column last week. I could give you lots of excuses—I did not realize it was Sunday, had nothing to write about, the dog ate my homework... The truth is, I forgot. Well, I did remember at 2 a.m. when I got up to use the bathroom. I remember being in Paris and writing my column in the lobby of the hotel. In Spain, I wrote it in a hotel room on my sister’s laptop. When I put the message on Facebook that there would not be a column, I got lots of private messages asking if I was okay. I am truly blessed with the best readers.

Good news: Heinle’s is OPEN. Raj Patel, the new owner of the building, told me the new hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. It will be a grocery/convenience store. Raj is waiting on his liquor license and the deli is in the works. The gas pumps are open 24/7. You must wear a mask when entering the store. Henning’s Local is staying; see their weekend menu posted on their website and order online Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In these crazy times, it’s important to support your local restaurants. If you do not want to sit with other people, take it home and enjoy. For a birthday present, give a gift certificate from a local restaurant. I personally will try to be better at supporting local businesses.

It’s great to see everyone out enjoying Lake Huntington now that it is nice and clean. Paul Genco hosts the page Lake Huntington NY. Between Paul, Joe Tinari and Kristina Snedeker, they have great videos and pictures. Lake Huntington is a great place to live; it was a resort area, now it is a place for second homes and permanent homes. The lake is a 75-acre recreation lake for fishing, boating and swimming and, in the winter, ice fishing.

Please follow the New Cochecton Youth Group on Facebook for more information on upcoming activities. In the next few weeks, they will be posting information on outdoor virtual activities.

Did you fill out your 2020 Census? It’s quick and easy. The 2020 Census questionnaire will take about 10 minutes to complete. It’s safe, secure and confidential.
