HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — Anyone who’s spent any time in the area around Highland Lake, NY has likely heard the legendary lore of “sunken treasure” in the form of slot machines languishing on the lake bottom… but is it true?

On Saturday, September 24 at 7 p.m., local resident Peter Sulzbach will share his memories of Highland Lake. The presentation will be held at the North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL).

Sulzbach’s parents ran businesses on the shore of Highland Lake during its heyday. Now 82, he spent his youth helping in the bait shop, the bowling alley, with boat rentals, with bungalows and seasonal apartments.

It was all a part of living here in the mid-20th century.

What was boarding-house life like? Why do boats move counter-clockwise on the lake?

The presentation will conclude with a Q&A, and you’ll be able to share your own stories.

There is no charge to attend. Refreshments will be available for a donation, and all proceeds benefit NACL.

For more information, call NACL at 845/557-0694.
