MONTICELLO, NY -- On March 24, a Sullivan County jury found Patrick Hermanowski, 41, guilty of two counts of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree following a four-day trial. The jury found that on September 12, 2021, Hermanowski intentionally possessed and discharged a nine-millimeter “ghost gun” pistol at two on-duty uniformed members of the New York State Police. After the incident, Hermanowski was found in possession of over two ounces of methamphetamine.
Hermanowski, who had three prior felony convictions, faces life in prison and is due to be sentenced on June 16, 2023. This case was prosecuted at trial by Sullivan County Acting District Attorney Brian P. Conaty with the assistance of assistant district attorney William Varade.
“In a climate of increased scrutiny, attacks, and an onslaught of anti-police rhetoric and legislation this verdict speaks to the unwavering commitment my office places behind the backs of every man and woman who puts on the uniform each morning and swears to protect the citizens of Sullivan County. I want to praise the members of the New York State Police, all law enforcement, including the brave actions of the Troopers who nearly lost their lives on September 12th, 2021 while apprehending Patrick Hermanowski. As the Acting District Attorney, I proudly stand with all of you in your efforts to make Sullivan County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.” Conaty said.
